IMPACT committed to save the planet, aiming to reduce energy consumption by 4% by replacing conventional appliances with energy efficient ones and using eco-friendly materials
In response to the current trend towards saving the planet, IMPACT is committed to the international standard for energy management or ISO 50001 and aims to reduce energy consumption by 4% in 2019 by replacing conventional appliances with LEDs, installing solar rooftop panels and using eco-friendly materials to serve customers, while encouraging employees to save energy, recycle and reuse. The company saved more than 800,000 baht in electricity costs in the first quarter of this year.
According to Miss Jintana Phongpakdee, Director of Corporate Communications, IMPACT Exhibition Management Co., Ltd., the operator of IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center, Muang Thong Thani, the MICE industry can sometimes negatively affect the environment and host communities by materials used in events such as exhibition booth materials, event signages, carpet, and paper, as well as high use of energy like electricity and fuel and transportation. To help minimize environmental impacts, IMPACT has established corporate policies to reduce energy consumption and waste. The company has also fostered mutual understanding among clients and event organizers and encouraged them to collaborate.
In 2009, the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization) or TCEB promoted the Green Meetings Guidelines and encouraged MICE organizations to comply with energy management standard or ISO 50001. IMPACT is the first MICE venue in Thailand that has been certified with the ISO 50001 standard. The company has adopted best practices in energy efficiency and promoted environmental friendliness. In 2019, IMPACT has set aside a budget of approximately 7 million baht for replacing electrical appliances, especially light bulbs, with LEDs which are more energy efficient, as well as installation of solar panels on the roof of IMPACT Challenger and P2 parking building.
IMPACT sets its energy saving policy by defining energy conservation as part of the company’s operations, supporting design and purchase of materials, equipment and new technologies. The company also raise awareness and promote employee participation in energy saving, as well as setting goal for annual energy saving. IMPACT strives to conduct its business in accordance with corporate policies, with strong commitment to energy conservation. Conventional light bulbs have been replaced with energy efficient ones. Chillers have been reengineered to reduce energy consumption. As a result, IMPACT reduced energy consumption by 240,000 kilowatt-hour and saved 894,000 baht in electricity costs in the first quarter of 2019 (January-March 2019). Although a satisfactory energy efficiency has been achieved, the management team has set the goal of reducing energy consumption by 4% in 2019 and is confident that IMPACT will achieve the goal.
In addition, IMPACT chooses to use eco-friendly materials to serve customers instead of Styrofoam boxes. Flower rooms no longer use flower storage containers. The fast food kitchen was closed to use only the main kitchen. Waste is separated for recycling. Fruits and vegetable waste from food production has been used to produce bio-fertilizers for trees. Artificial plants and flowers have been used over fresh ones to help reduce waste. To reduce plastic use in food and beverage service, IMPACT uses bio-degradable garbage bags, straws, spoons and forks even though the company must cover 2.5% extra costs from approximate 12 million baht per year. IMPACT is aware of environmental problems while clients want to make their events more environmentally friendly. IMPACT is ready to respond to customers’ needs and proud of being part of society that cares for the environment.
